It’s an age-old tale where the spirit of entrepreneurship and hyper-innovation is slowly stifled by the pressure to grow and expand. Many of us have arrived at these crossroads, where we’ve had to make a choice between pouring our resources into creating new possibilities or doing what is best for our bottom line. Wirestorm started small, and profitability wasn’t what drove us. We cared deeply about nurturing our creativity, and we succeeded in building beautiful products. When we faced the challenge of needing to grow, we knew that we needed to come up with a magic formula to exist in both a place of innovation and results-driven efficiency. Today we take pride in being the people that executives call when they want to push the envelope but make sure that business value is delivered.
Innovating within an enterprise structure is a complex process. We have now worked in numerous sectors ranging from government to entertainment, and deeply understand the intricate makeup of a comprehensive organization. Whenever we realize that innovation isn’t considered a priority to one of our clients, we present examples of enterprise leaders that continue to charge forward with that same entrepreneurial creativity that gave them life.
Take the co-founder of Netflix, Reed Hastings, for example. In a recent interview with Forbes, Hastings reflected on how his first company, Pure Software, was "exciting and innovative in the first few years” but lost its sense of freedom and ingenuity after needing to systemize all their procedures in order to grow. Hastings decided to not go the same route with Netflix, and instead amped up his passion for disruptive tech by pouring most of the company’s profits into researching streaming as early as 2001 while we were all rewinding Blockbuster videos.
What do we know about creativity? It is one of the most powerful ways to attract people to our cause.
There is a way to bridge the gap between getting lost in creativity and delivering actual value, and Wirestorm is right in that sweet spot. We enter with creativity first when approaching an enterprise system’s complex and unique challenges. Our depth of experience coupled with technical execution allows us to build brilliant solutions geared toward efficiency and the bottom line. At the end of the day, I believe it’s our dedication to creativity that makes our work truly powerful. We strive to create a genuine attachment to the things we build. We constantly try to remind ourselves that no matter how big we become, we will continue to make room for our creativity, because it is creativity that stands the test of time.
